"My husband and I first met Alannah-Sharon Ridley at an Open House near Mill Bay early in 2011, where she was the vendor’s REALTOR®. Having emigrated from the UK just a year previously the procedures relating to Realty were new to me and, at the time, we were ‘just looking’ to see what was out there. I was very impressed by her knowledge and ability to explain the Realty process without pressure and in a clear and concise way. We came away thinking this was a professional who knew here stuff and has an infectious enthusiasm about selling houses.
After much thought and personal deliberation, we decided to sell first and then buy. The media informed us that the housing market was depressed, so we knew it could be an uphill grind to sell our unique traditional cabin in-the-woods. We very quickly became aware that we needed someone with a sharper marketing skills than either of us had. We spoke with other REALTORs®, but then remembered how vibrantly Alannah had been at the Mill Bay Open House a few months before.
We wanted someone who gave us an honest appraisal of our house; someone who knew how best to stage it, for prospective buyers, and a REALTOR® who could keep motivated and bring in suitable buyers. Alannah’s responses to our questions were direct and she was very positive about selling the house, once we had ‘staged’ it properly.
We had thoroughly cleaned the house and done all the things one read about in the magazines. What Alannah brought was that imperceptible eye of design and style that just gave each room the ‘Wow!’ Factor. None of her suggestions were expensive, but just gave that clinch to each room. In essence all the personal items, which detract from the view of the room, had to be put away. Worktops absolutely clear, the ‘Spa effect’ in the bathroom. An inviting appearance in the lounge. The theme was to be, ‘The cottage near the Lake,’ We invited friends around to get their views. Wow! was the response.
The house went on sale on 13th May 2011 and we had viewers about twice a week, plus a visit from local REALTORs®. On 25th July 2011 we agreed a sale at a healthy price, which we were very pleased about. Alannah took us through the paperwork of ‘Offer and Acceptance’, to final Contract after Inspections, and it was there we were glad to have her as our REALTOR®. Her no-nonsense honest approach gained confidence, and the deal was sealed.
We did wonder whether to use her for the purchase of a new house, but felt so comfortable working with her, that within a further three weeks we had put in an offer on a house up Island. Again Alannah’s detailed research into the local housing market and history of the house proved a useful tool in negotiating a really good deal to our benefit. We felt that Alannah was ‘on the ball’, at each stage in the process.
Alannah’s willingness to keep in contact and follow-up on every detail, as well as giving feedback after each viewing was what convinced me to write this reference. She has an inside knowledge of the housing market, a professional, attention to detail and comes across as a human being interested in making things work for her clients.
